Rhondda Fach Active Travel Route Phase 5

The Rhondda Fach Active Travel Route (the Route) is a new walking and cycling route between Maerdy and Stanleytown in the Rhondda Fach Valley. The Route will follow the alignment of the former railway line along the valley floor and will include links to local communities, shops, schools and leisure facilities.

The Route has been split into five phases. Phase 1 was completed in January 2024 and Phase 2 was completed in July 2024. Phase 3 and 4 received planning permission in June 2024 and Phase 4 is currently under construction, due to be completed in late Spring 2025.  Phase 5 is due to be constructed from Spring 2026, depending on funding availability.

Phase 5 of the Route will provide a new shared use route along the former railway line between Maerdy and Tylorstown, with links to Rhondda Fach Sports Centre and Tylorstown Surgery.  It will start at the southern end of Phase 4, which is due to be completed next Spring, and end at Stanleytown overbridge, connecting it to the Porth Relief Road community route.
