Residents and road users in Pontypridd are advised that several abnormal load deliveries will be transported through the area over the next few weeks, to reach the Llwyncelyn Wind Farm. This will be managed by the police with a ‘rolling road closure’ on each occasion, starting from next week.
Quantum Traffic Management has submitted the application for the required road traffic measures, on behalf of Mar-train Heavy Haulage Ltd.
The first delivery is scheduled for the evening of Monday, September 16, with four deliveries taking place on this date. The applicant’s current plan is for a further 20 deliveries to take place across several more dates, that will be scheduled periodically up until and including the first week of October 2024.
The abnormal load will be marshalled by police from the A470 onto Sainsbury’s Roundabout and A4058 Broadway, continuing across Sardis Road bridge (travelling against the one-way system) and onto the bottom of Graigwen Hill.
The ‘rolling road closure’ will encompass A4058 Cross Valley Link, Broadway, Sardis Road (Broadway to Mill Street), Sardis Road Gyratory, Mill Street (Sardis Road to Rhondda Road), Rhondda Road (Mill Street to Graigwen Road), Graigwen Road, and Pen-y-Wal Road towards Llanwonno for 2.55km.
The route is illustrated on the following map on the Council’s website. Each delivery is expected to require a 15-minute ‘rolling road closure’ – the length of time between it leaving the A470 and reaching Graigwen Hill.
No alternative route is provided due to the nature of the ‘rolling road closure’. Access will be maintained for pedestrians and emergency service vehicles. The contractor has advised that cyclists can use the closure section, but should proceed with caution.
The applicant will also require a prohibition of stopping order on Graigwen Road, to prevent parking, due to the size of the vehicles that will pass through. Affected residents will receive a letter further explaining the arrangements.
