The awards are pouring in for Rhondda Heritage Park Museum!  Just weeks after being named as the only venue in Wales to achieve the Coach Friendly Award by the Confederation of Passenger Transport,  we are now thrilled (again!) to announce we are 2024 recipients of Tripadvisors’ Travellers' Choice Award.

The Travellers’ Choice Award recognises businesses that earn consistently great reviews. Award-winners are among the top 10% of listings on Tripadvisor that consistently demonstrate a commitment to hospitality excellence.

This award is therefore very special as it is decided by the Tripadvisor reviews written by our visitors who come from all around the world to experience our unique underground tour and enjoy our exhibitions and events.

Councillor Ann Crimmings, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Leisure said:

Rhondda Heritage Park Museum plays such an important role in telling the history of the Rhondda Valleys.  This latest award is a testament not only to the dedication of all the staff, but it re-iterates the fact that this is a museum with a difference that visitors thoroughly enjoy!

There’s always a reason to visit whether it be to attend an event, see a new exhibition or to take the underground tour again.  There’s something for all ages. Our younger visitors for example, love to ride on Dram – the virtual runaway coal dram simulation which is a fantastic end to the underground tour.

Congratulations to all the staff at Rhondda Heritage Park Museum!

If you haven’t visited Rhondda Heritage Park Museum yet, or you haven’t been for a while, here are just a few reasons to come along and enjoy a unique day out with us:

The unique Black Gold Underground Experience Underground Guided Tour
Go underground with our ex-miner tour guides and listen as they tell tales and share memories of mining life from a time when coal from the Rhondda Valleys powered the world!  We guarantee that no two tours are ever the same as our guides are full of stories, facts (and the odd joke!)

Free interactive exhibitions
Our brand-new interactive exhibition is on the ground floor and features over 140 artefacts accompanied by digital touch screens, footage from the archives, The range of topics on offer span from 1809 right up to the closure of Tower Colliery, the last deep mine in South Wales in 2008, making it the most comprehensive and fascinating interactive exhibition on mining life and history in South Wales.

There’s even more to see in our upstairs Gallery, Courtyard and Coal Society exhibition also!
