Key details for local road improvement scheme in Efail Isaf

Heol Dowlais

Please note, a road closure and temporary bus arrangements are required to enable an upcoming carriageway resurfacing scheme in Efail Isaf.

The road improvements are being carried out at Heol Dowlais – as part of the Council’s £5.98m capital investment programme being delivered in 2024/25.

The closure will run from 8am to 4.30pm on Monday, July 15, and Tuesday, July 16 – from number 34 Heol Dowlais to the junction with Heol Creigiau.

The Council has appointed Peter Simmons Contracting to deliver the resurfacing work.

An alternative route for motorists will be clearly signposted via Nant Dowlais Roundabout, Church Village Bypass (A473), Nant Celyn Roundabout, Station Road, Heol-y-Parc, Ffordd-y-Capel, Heol-y-Ffynnon, and Heol Dowlais.

Access will be maintained for pedestrians and emergency service vehicles – access will also be maintained to premises. Cyclists should dismount and take the pedestrian route.

During the closure (July 15-16), the Edwards Coaches Service 90 (Gwaunmiskin-Pontypridd) will be unable to serve the main road through Efail Isaf.

It will divert via the A473 in both directions from Station Road Roundabout, resuming its normal route at the Crown Hill Roundabout.

A FREE shuttle bus service will be in operation, to provide local connections that are unable to be made due to the road closure. It will operate to the following timetable.
