Aberdare Festival 2023

The weather may have been miserable but the atmosphere at Aberdare Festival on Saturday May 6th was anything but!

The weather forecast predicted rain, rain and more rain so the What’s On RCT team worked hard in the final days leading up to the Cynon Valley’s popular annual event to change the plans almost completely in order to make sure as much of the planned entertainment as possible could still go ahead.

The grey skies and rain couldn’t dampen the celebration spirit as residents and visitors were entertained by live music from tribute acts as well as local performers LA Performance Academy and Studio Streetwise who brought along all their fans!

Younger visitors loved the Dinosaur show and circus skills and of course the Land Train was on hand to transport visitors all around the event. The outdoor cinema made a welcome return to finish off the day with Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical. A selection of photos from the day are available at www.aberdarefestival.co.uk and @whatsonrct on Facebook.

Cllr Ann Crimmings, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Leisure said:

Aberdare Festival has become a real fixture in the events calendar at Aberdare Park. As a member of the Friends of Aberdare Park, it’s great to see this beautiful space so full of people enjoying everything it has to offer. The park also hosts Park Run every Saturday morning at 9am, and lots of other events throughout the year. Of course the boating lake and Aquadare splash pad are open all Summer as well.
