A4 Remembrance Parade Poster 2024 small

The annual Remembrance Sunday event to commemorate British service members who have died in wars and other military conflicts since the onset of World War I, will take place in Ynysangharad War Memorial Park, Pontypridd on Sunday 10th November.

As always, people from across Rhondda Cynon Taf are invited to come together and pay their respects to the brave men and women who have given their lives in service to their country.

The parade starts at 10.35 in Ynysangharad War Memorial Park where people of all ages from a range of community and military organisations will form up and parade to the War Memorial.  Here, a service led by the Reverend Charlotte Rushton of St Catherine’s Church, Pontypridd, will take place at 11am.  The service offers everyone a chance to join in prayer and includes a two-minute silence for reflection and remembrance.

This event  is being held in partnership with Pontypridd Town Council and is an opportunity for the Council and its communities to reaffirm its support to all members of the Armed Forces Community, serving and retired.  Rhondda Cynon Taf has a proud record of valuing its armed services, both past and present, and its Armed Forces Covenant proactively supports our Armed Forces Community.

Details of the Armed Forces Covenant which includes a free veterans advice service, Covenant Grant Fund and information on the free Armed Forces Discount scheme, can be found here.

Rhondda Cynon Taf’s Armed Forces team also regularly assists with war grave cleaning in cemeteries around the county borough in conjunction with Valleys Veterans and on behalf of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. Volunteers are always welcome.  For more information on this please contact Valleys Veterans at www.valleyveterans.org

Cllr Maureen Webber, Deputy Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and Armed Forces Champion, said:

All members of the public are more than welcome to attend the Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service in Pontypridd.  The event is an opportunity for residents to come together and show support for the Armed Forces community whilst remembering the sacrifices made by those who have fallen in combat.  This event is one of many which will be held in Rhondda Cynon Taf on Remembrance Sunday as local groups and town councils also organise services throughout the county borough.  Details of these can be found in local communities.
