Local retaining wall repair scheme completed in Pontygwaith

Brewery Road grid - Copy

The Council has substantially completed a significant wall repair scheme at Brewery Road in Pontygwaith, with all traffic management having now been removed.

The scheme to repair the large masonry retaining wall started on site at the end of August 2024, by the Council’s appointed contractor Kordel Civils and Building Ltd.

Work over the course of the scheme has removed intrusive vegetation from the wall, while specific areas of the structure were raked out and repointed.

Localised areas of the wall have also been rebuilt, while the existing copings were removed and reinstated where this was required.

The scheme was substantially completed on Monday, October 7, when the two-way traffic management was removed.

It has been funded via the Council’s Highways and Transportation Capital Programme for 2024/25.

Residents are advised that a replacement pedestrian guardrail will also be installed as part of the project, running above the wall, at a future date.

Any anticipated disruption from this outstanding activity will be communicated by the Council once finalised.

Thanks to residents and road users for your cooperation during this scheme.
