How we use your personal information for Employment, Education and Training Team Employment Opportunities purposes

The Council provides services for local communities and the people who live in them.  Undertaking this work means that we must collect and use information about the people we provide services to and keep a record of those services. Because we collect and use personal information about individuals we must make sure that they know what we intend to do with their information and who it may be shared with. 

We have summarised in this privacy notice some of the key ways in which we use your personal information for work experience and internship purposes. This information should be read in conjunction with the Council’s workforce privacy notice and Council's Corporate privacy notice.

1. Who we are, what we do.

The Employment, Education & Training Team is dedicated to enhancing career and work opportunities for young people in and leaving care and those not in education, employment or training. We provide support and advice and deliver a range of programmes to improve employability and employment prospects.

We offer work placements within RCT Council for students and members of the public. These include self referral and referrals from other organisations, such as Job Centre Plus (JCP) work experience placements and University Internships.

We also administer the Apprenticeship Scheme providing job specific knowledge and skills.

2. What and whose personal information we hold?

The types of information we hold and process will typically include:

  • Contact details, including name, address, telephone numbers, email addresses, employment and education history
  • Identifying details, including date of birth and national insurance number
  • Equal Opportunities Form which details gender, ethnic origin and disability

3. Where does the service get my information from?

We obtain this personal information directly from you but from time to time we may receive this information from your college, university and JCP adviser if they are making a referral to us on your behalf.

4. What we will do with your personal information?

We will use your personal information to

  • Ensure the correct placement is sourced
  • Recruit you as an apprentice
  • Provide you with relevant training to enhance your employability skills

5. What is the legal basis for the use of this information?

The legal basis for our use of your personal information will generally be one or more of the following:

a)    we need to process your personal information to carry out a task in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority in our capacity as a public body;

6. Does the service share my personal information with any other organisation?

Personal data is shared internally to find you a work placement, apprenticeship or internship If you have an internship or placement arranged through an organisation for example Job Centre Plus, we will contact them to advise whether you have a placement.

If you are unsuccessful with your application as an apprentice, we will share your information with Communities for Work, a community based advisory service who can provide you with mentoring and support to help you gain future employment skills.

7. How long will my information be kept?

We will only keep your personal information for as long as we need it, we will not keep your information any longer than is necessary. The time we keep your information depends on the nature of the information.

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) gives you important rights, including the right to access the personal information the services hold about you.
