We offer a wide range of educational opportunities at the National Lido of Wales, Lido Ponty that assist teaching staff with providing a meaningful, relevant and motivating curriculum for learners. Resources for teachers can be downloaded from this page for free.

Lido learning - Story of Coal
Travel back in time and discover the importance of coal to the development of Pontypridd. Discover the impact of mining on the environment and learn all about how people built leisure facilities to enjoy their spare time in clean, healthy spaces.
Children will be able to:
- Identify their location on a map and plan a route from the National Lido of Wales, Lido Ponty, through Ynysangharad War Memorial Park.
- Learn about the history and heritage of the site, and their links to Welsh history and culture.
- Understand the origins of coal and its uses, and relate these to contemporary themes such as pollution and healthy living.

lido learning - Waterworks
Discover the unique history of the National Lido of Wales, Lido Ponty, how it came to be built, and the famous people who visited in the past.
Learn about Jenny James' swims across the Bristol Channel and English Channel and how she used Lido Ponty to train for her races.
Children will be able to:
- Calculate how much water was used to fill the Lido.
- Estimate how many equivalent lengths of the Lido Jenny James swam on her cross-channel races.
- Identify the historic features of the National Lido of Wales, Lido Ponty, and relate them to the building as it is today.

lido learning - Tree Trunks
The National Lido of Wales, Lido Ponty, is situated in Ynysangharad War Memorial Park and is surrounded by the natural world. Discover the mini beasts, birds, and bats that live in the park as you walk around. Examine the different creatures that you find and explore their surroundings. This walk is the perfect opportunity to bring your camera along. Take inspiration from the natural environment to make art work using leaves, stones, and twigs.
Children will be able to:
- Calculate heights and ages if trees.
- Design and make art works using natural resources.
- Recognise different mini beasts living in the park.

PLAN YOUR VISIT
To book your free visit, please:
- Book your visit at least five working days in advance.
- Telephone the National Lido of Wales, Lido Ponty on 0300 004 0000 to check the availability for the date on which you would like to visit.
- Once you have agreed a date and time with Lido Ponty, complete and return the online booking form that will be emailed to you.
Teachers and group leaders are responsible for carrying out risk assessments prior to the visit in accordance with guidance issued by local education authorities.
