Contacting the Service

The Animal Warden collection service operates between the normal working hours (9:00 -17:00, mon-fri) and an emergency out of hours service for stray dogs is also available with the kennels open from 17:00-22:00 Mon – Fri  and  8:00 – 22:00  Saturday, Sunday & Bank Holidays. If a member of the public finds a stray dog in normal working hours ( 9:00-17:00, mon-fri) they need to phone the Council Call centre on 01443 425001 to either arrange collection by an Animal Warden or obtain a reference number to allow the dog to be taken directly to the kennels.

If the stray dog is reported to the Council’s Contact Centre out of hours service on 01443 425011 (out of hours kennel opening times 17:00-22:00 Mon – Fri , 8:00 – 22:00  Saturday, Sunday & Bank Holidays ), a reference number will be provided for the restrained stray dog to enable it to be accepted at Hope Rescue kennels in Llanharan. If the person restraining the dog is unable to take the dog to the kennels, arrangements can be made for an Animal Warden to collect the dog during normal working hours. There is no current provision for the Animal Warden to collect a stray dog outside the stipulated normal working hours.

Stray dogs are kept at:

Hope Rescue Kennels
Cynllan Lodge,
Old Llanharry Road,
Llanharan, CF72 9NH

SATNAV use CF72 9RA

Animal Wardens will try to trace the owners and return the dog. Microchips will be checked and the appropriate fee charged if the dog is reclaimed.

If the dog found is not micro-chipped, an additional cost will be added to cover the cost of micro-chipping.

Stray dogs will be kept safely for up to seven days at Hope Rescue kennels or returned in line with the appropriate kennelling charge below.

After seven days, the Council’s responsibility for the dog will cease and Hope Rescue will seek to re-home the dog, if possible.

The kennels are open to reclaim dogs:

  • 9.00am to 5pm 7 days per week

Dogs will only be returned to their owners after payment for kennel charges are made in full. If you want to check if your dog has been detained at the kennels, you can contact Hope Rescue directly on 01443 226659.
