How long will I be in care and what can I expect?

How long will I be in care?

This can depend on many situations. Sometimes young people go into care when they are babies. Some young people are older and spend a short time before going back to live with their parents.

If you don’t go back to living with your parents, you can be in care until you’re 18 years old. At 18 years old when you become an adult, you also become a care leaver or ‘care experienced.’ We can support you until you are 25 years old. Information for 16+ | Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council (rctcbc.gov.uk)

What can I expect?

When you come into care, we become ‘Corporate Parents.’ This means that RCT council have a responsibility to look after you as part of our pledge for children and young people. This explains how we will look after you and help you to achieve.
