Carers Rights Day – Supporting RCT's Unpaid Carers

Carers Support Project Newsroom

The Council is supporting Carers Rights Day (Thursday, November 24). It will recognise our unpaid carers' profound contribution to our communities, ensuring they have the information and advice they need.

To mark Carers Rights Day, we are announcing the return of one of our biggest annual face-to-face events for unpaid carers across Rhondda Cynon Taf.

Our Carers Rights Day Celebration Event 2022 takes place at Llantrisant Leisure Centre, Southgate Park, Llantrisant, CF72 8DJ on Friday, November 25, from 10:30am to 2:30pm.

Councillor Gareth Caple, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council's Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, said: "We know that we have many unpaid carers living in Rhondda Cynon Taf, who carry out their extra duties through love and compassion for others.

"It can often prove difficult to juggle a caring role with a busy working life, which is why the Council looks forward to holding a workshop during the day for working carers.

"This is our opportunity to thank our unpaid carers in our communities and provide them with extra support and information if needed."

This event has been organised by the Council's RCT Carers Support Project. Many local services will attend on the day, offering information and advice to those needing it.

Among those taking part will be:

  • ASD Rainbows
  • Age Connects Morgannwg
  • Carers Wales
  • Challenging Behaviour Support
  • Citizens Advice, Cwm Taf Care & Repair
  • Cynon Valley PALS, Cwm Taf's Integrated Autism Service
  • Interlink
  • National Autistic Society
  • Ray of Light Charity
  • RCT's Resilient Families Service
  • Valley Steps, Vision Products
  • SNAP Cymru
  • Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust
  • Youth Engagement and Participation Service (YEPS)
  • Young Adult Carers Support
  • Leisure Services

Therapeutic treatments and fun activities will also be on offer throughout the day, providing an opportunity for visitors to relax and unwind. A workshop on carers' rights in the workplace is also planned from 1-2pm, aimed at empowering unpaid carers to request the support they need at work confidently.
