Rhondda Cynon Taf Council has been successfully awarded the 'Carer Confident' benchmark from Carers UK, recognising our ongoing commitment to supporting staff members who have unpaid caring responsibilities.

We are now officially a Carer Confident Active employer and delighted to continue offering support to Council employees who are working carers.

The Carer Confident benchmarking scheme is run by Employers for Carers (Carers UK), to recognise employers who provide a supportive and inclusive workplace for staff who are or will become carers.

Councillor Gareth Caple, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council's Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, said: "I am delighted that the Council has been officially recognised as a Carer Confident employer for all the work it does in providing a support network for its working carers across the County Borough.

"We have many carers throughout Rhondda Cynon Taf, who do amazing work in a caring capacity while at the same time juggling their own busy lives. These carers carry out their duties through love and compassion for others and the Council will continue to support them in any way it can."

Last month, many carers attended the Council's Carers Rights Day Celebration Event, held at Llantrisant Leisure Centre. RCT Carers Support Project organised the event to recognise our unpaid carers' valuable contribution to our communities and provide them with information, support, and advice.

Many local services attended, including ASD Rainbows, Age Connects Morgannwg, Carers Wales, Challenging Behaviour Support, Citizens Advice, Cwm Taf Care & Repair, Cynon Valley PALS, Cwm Taf's Integrated Autism Service, Interlink, National Autistic Society, Ray of Light Charity, RCT's Resilient Families Service, Valley Steps, Vision Products, SNAP Cymru, Youth Engagement and Participation Service (YEPS), Young Carers (Action for Children), Young Adult Carers and Leisure Services.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is committed to supporting its employees caring for someone alongside their employment role. The Council is a member of Employers for Carers.

It is estimated that there are currently around 500,000 unpaid carers in Wales. Wales has the highest proportion of unpaid carers in the UK, many of whom provide more than 50 hours of care a week. In RCT, we recognise their immense contribution and endeavour to deliver high quality support to these carers who make a huge difference to the lives of the people they care for.
