UPDATED, 29/04/22: Please note, an additional road closure is required by Welsh Water to complete the water main diversion, and it will take place over the Bank Holiday weekend (8am on Saturday, April 30, to 6am on Tuesday, May 3). The closure arrangements will be the same as the recent Easter closure, as below.
Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water will carry out essential work to divert the water main at River Street in Treforest on behalf of the Council – using a road closure and temporary bus arrangements over the Easter holiday to minimise disruption.
The work will take place between 7 River Street and the junction of River Street and Castle Street – and has been scheduled over the holiday period to avoid peak travel times and to carry out the work safely and quickly, with fewer vehicles on the road at peak times and no school transport running. It will start on Saturday, April 9, ending by Sunday, April 24, including work over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend (April 15-18).

Welsh Water will be diverting the existing water main that is currently in place, to allow for the future replacement of the Castle Inn footbridge between River Street and Cardiff Road, Glyntaff. It has appointed Lewis Civil Engineering as the contractor to carry out the work.
Alternative Routes and Local Accesses
An alternative route for motorists is via Fothergill Street, Broadway, A4054 Glyntaff Interchange, A470 southbound, Upper Boat Interchange, Gwaelod-y-garth Road, Tonteg Road (A473), Tonteg Roundabout, Tonteg Road (B4595), Llantwit Road and Park Street, to the opposite side of the closure. Please note that access to Forest Road will be available via Castle Street at all times.

Access will be maintained for emergency services and pedestrians throughout the closure period, as well as local residents’ vehicles to ensure access to their homes. This will be achieved by allowing two-way traffic to operate in River Street on a temporary basis, from Fothergill Street to 7 River Street. However, there will be a restriction on parking along River Street at this time.
Temporary Bus Arrangements
As a result of the road closure, Edwards Coaches service 90 (Pontypridd-Gwaunmiskin Terminus) and service 100 (Pontypridd-Royal Glamorgan Hospital) will be unable to serve their normal routes along the Broadway and at the Otley Arms in Treforest. They will therefore divert via Wood Road and King Street, before resuming their normal route from Llantwit Road.
Further closures will be required on future weekends from April 30 to May 22, which will utilise the same bus arrangements. Please note that only journeys in the direction of Beddau are affected by the upcoming road closures, with journeys in the direction of Pontypridd remaining unchanged.
Please note, all local businesses will be open as usual during the works. The Council and Welsh Water would like to thank the community in advance for their cooperation, as this important work is completed over the coming weeks.
