Ground investigations will begin from Monday at Ynysybwl Road in Glyncoch – requiring a change to local traffic arrangements over the next three weeks to inform future embankment stabilisation work at this location.
In May, the Council appointed consultants to further investigate the ongoing issue affecting the highway. The issue on this section of the B4273 has been caused by several unauthorised and illegal excavations of land at the nearby embankment, which have removed the required support to the road above.
To ensure safety, traffic lights have remained in place to close the southbound lane of Ynysybwl Road – along with the footway adjacent to the embankment. Initial stabilisation work has taken place on adjoining land, which is owned by Transport for Wales, and a future scheme will be required at this location.
Recent progress has seen the Council and Transport for Wales reach an agreement over land access – while topographical, service tracing, ecology and drainage surveys are complete. A contractor has also been appointed to undertake upcoming ground investigations over the next three weeks.
This work starts on Monday, October 25, scheduled for the school half term to minimise disruption, with Craig yr Hesg Primary School located nearby. Additional traffic management is needed for some of this work, with the most disruption expected in the first week. A change to the traffic management will be made from November 1 to minimise the disruption when school resumes.
From Monday, the short unnamed road between numbers 14 and 15 Glyncoch Terrace will be converted to a one-way system. Vehicles will be able to enter Cefn Lane from Ynysybwl Road – but not to travel in the opposite direction. This will enable the current traffic lights to change from a three-way system to two-way, improving traffic flow on the main road.
The Council would like to thank the local community in advance for their cooperation as these essential ground investigations are carried out. The work will be carried out working closely with the contractor to minimise disruption.
