A Tribute to Former Rhondda Cynon Taf Mayors.

Following the recent passing of three of our beloved former Mayors, tributes are being paid by Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council in honour of each of the lives sadly lost.

A minute silence in memory of Councillor Simon Lloyd and Councillor Linda De Vet took place during a meeting of Full Council, held on Wednesday March 6th. At this meeting, two tributes were paid by the former Councillors respective ward colleagues and dear friends Councillor Sheryl Evans and Councillor Andrew Morgan.

A further tribute and minute silence was also paid at the recent meeting of Full Council on April 24th to commemorate the loss of Councillor Emlyn Jenkins.

Councillor Emlyn Jenkins was appointed as Mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taf from 2005 – 2006. During his time in office, he raised a total of £32,123.87 for his chosen charities – Cancer Research Wales, Faceup and Christian Lewis Trust.

Councillor Jenkins also served as an Elected Member of the Council, representing the Pentre ward, having been elected during the local elections held in 2004.

Councillor Simon Lloyd was appointed as Mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taf from 2010 – 2011. During his time in office, he raised a total of £42,265 for his chosen charities –Cancer Support Cynon Valley, Marie Curie Cancer Care, Christian Lewis Trust, Childrens’ Cancer Charity, and the Royal Corps of Signals.

Councillor Lloyd also served as an Elected Member of the Council, representing the Mountain Ash ward, having been elected during the local elections held in 2005.

Councillor Linda De Vet was appointed as Mayoress of Rhondda Cynon Taf from2019- 2020. During her time in office, she raised a total of £23,000 for her chosen charities – Bobath Children’s Therapy Centre Wales, Friends of Animals Wales and the New Horizons Mental Health and Wellbeing Centre.

Councillor De Vet also served as an Elected Member of the Council, representing the Aberaman ward, having been elected during the local elections held in 2004.

Councillor Maureen Webber, Deputy Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council said:

Councillor Jenkins, Councillor Lloyd, and Councillor De Vet each made remarkable contributions within our community during their time as Mayor, and as Elected Representatives. As a local authority we are deeply grateful for their longstanding commitment to being a voice for our residents.

We are fortunate to have had the pleasure of working with such exceptional colleagues and dear friends, each of whom will be sorely missed”.
