Voiced by local historians and an ex-miner, this audio trail will give you an interesting look into the coal mines that once filled this famous Rhondda Valley.

Departing from the Welsh Mining Experience, which operates on the former Lewis Merthyr Colliery site, the trail navigates you passed a number of former industrial sites including the Dr. Richard Griffiths Tramroad and the Drift Mine.

The 3.2km walk takes approximately 1 1/2 hours to complete. Either prior to or after your walk, a visit to the Welsh Mining Experience is the perfect complement to your visit. Led by our former miners, the guardians of coal's memory, our underground guided tour gives you a firsthand look into what it was really like to work at the mine.

Please note this is a countryside walk, with uneven terrain, including some steep ascents and descents. This walk is not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs, or people with mobility problems.
