Properties in the Cwmdare area will benefit from a project to help protect them from flooding
Thanks to support from the Welsh Government’s Flood Risk Management Grant, European Regional Development Fund and Rhondda Cynon Taf Council capital funds a scheme will be implemented to alleviate historical flooding issues centred around the Bwllfa Road Culvert.
The project works comprise of the construction of a new inlet structure to the rear of Bwllfa Road, accommodating a larger pipe compared to existing. Lined and unlined ditches to carry the flows to the proposed inlet structure will be constructed.
A new culverted system is to be constructed from the inlet structure, across Bwllfa Road and will reconnect to the existing system within the field area near Dare Road. This improved system will provide a more effective drainage system with a 400% increase in capacity compared to the existing.
To enable the construction of some of these important infrastructure works, it will be necessary to have temporary traffic control measures in place.
Risk of localised flooding continues to be an issue during and after the project and RCT CBC Flood Risk Management Team continues to work with our partners in the community and the Waste Management and Streetcare divisions of the Council to minimise that risk.
However, the risk of flooding significantly increases where there is illegal tipping of rubbish in and around the streams and culverts. We therefore request that the general public only uses official and legal means for disposal of their rubbish.
