Penygawsi Primary School

This project will provide a new school building with state-of-the art facilities to replace the existing Penygawsi Primary School buildings. The new facilities will be located on the existing school site.

In December 2022, Welsh Government confirmed its contribution to this project which will be funded via the Mutual Investment Model (MIM).  MIM is the revenue funding stream of Welsh Government’s Sustainable Communities for Learning Programme.

The investment will deliver a two-storey new build which will target Net Zero Carbon in operation, on the current school site. The development, being undertaken by Morgan Sindall Construction, is due to replace the existing school buildings by summer 2024. The school will then be able to accommodate 310 pupils and 45 nursery places.

The wider development will provide a two-court Multi Use Games Area, a playing field and a car park. It will create a stimulating learning environment through brand new internal and external facilities fit for the 21st Century – with some provision for wider community use.

A consultation which ran between October and November 2021 provided residents with an opportunity to find out more and have their say.

The project received full planning permission from the Council’s Planning and Development Committee in March 2022.
