Social Work and Care

What do we do?

If you wish to pursue a rewarding career in social work or care, there are many opportunities here at Rhondda Cynon Taf Council. Did you know that we have a number of homes for the elderly along with respite and day care settings. We also provide support to children, their families and carers, support at home for older people, supported living services for people with a learning disability, mental health support services and adaptation and community equipment along with many other services.

Roles within social care include Social Workers for both Children's and Adult Services, Occupational Therapist and a broad range of Support Worker roles covering Support@Home Worker, Casual Care/Domestic Assistant, Intermediate Care & Rehabilitation Worker, and Residential Child Care Practitioners.

Customer and Support Services

What do we do?

We provide support services to both our residents and our internal staff. Support services to residents include*:

Contact Centre – a central telephone resource for residents to access support with issues ranging from council tax queries, reporting potholes to arranging special collections of bulky items.

One 4 All Centres – An appointment only service where residents can get support with issues mentioned above but in a face-to-face setting.

Roles within our customer and support services include Contact Centre Advisor, Contact Centre Manager, Human Resources Officer, Human Resources Assistant, Accountant, Service Desk Manager, Business Support Officer.

Public Health and Protection

What do we do?

Our services include Environmental Health, Trading Standards and Licensing who provide regulatory and enforcement services to local businesses through to Housing and Bereavement Services.

Roles within Public Health and Protection include Environmental Health Officer, Housing Officer, Trading Standards Officer.

Streetcare and Cleansing

What do we do?

Our streetcare and cleansing roles are probably among the most recognisable in the Council, with staff visible throughout Rhondda Cynon Taf whilst undertaking their duties on a daily basis. Our services include refuse and recycling collection, street cleansing and facilities cleaning.

Roles within Streetcare and Cleansing include Collection Operative, Team Leader, Cleansing Operative, Cleaner.

Leisure, Parks, Libraries, Culture and other recreational services

What do we do?

Have you ever wondered who is responsible for all the leisure centres, libraries, theatres, parks and even the Lido at Ynys Angharad Park? We are.

Who works here?

Roles within Leisure, Parks and Culture include Library Assistant, Recreation Attendant, Lighting Technician, Park Ranger.

Technical Support Services

What do we do?

We have teams of technical experts which include surveyors, planners, and engineers who are responsible for designing, planning and implementing new roads, bridges and structures and also maintaining current structures to ensure they are safe. We also have a team who are responsible for maintaining our fleet of council vehicles, ensuring they meet the required safety standards.

Technical roles include Engineer, Technical Assistant, Surveyor, Traffic Management Support Assistant, Technician and Motor Mechanic.

Education and School Support Services

We have over 100 schools throughout Rhondda Cynon Taf, all of which are staffed with Teachers, Teaching Support staff and catering services. Our Education and Inclusion Service is also supported by the Wellbeing and Attendance Service.

Who works here?

Roles within Education and School Support Services include Teacher, Special Educational Needs Support Assistant, Educational Psychologist, Caretaker and Breakfast Club Assistant.

Communities for Work Plus

We have a number of grant funded employment support programmes running across Rhondda Cynon Taf, offering support and advice to all residents over 16, who are looking to get into employment, training or volunteering.  You can also receive support to up-skill when you are in work.

Care Experienced Young People

Children Services and the Employment, Education & Training Team have joined up to offer young people Care experienced, formerly Care experienced or those with a Care and support plan a range of services that can help find work or training. Known as ‘Care2Work’ and ‘Step in the Right Direction’, these programmes are aimed to equip young people with the skills and tools needed to access meaningful opportunities in their chosen career path.

Our work experience programme enables people to carry out and/or observe a range of tasks or duties, but with the emphasis on learning.
