Pontyclun Primary School

This project will provide a new school building with state-of-the art facilities on the existing Pontyclun Primary School site.

In December 2022, Welsh Government confirmed its contribution to this project which will be funded via the Mutual Investment Model (MIM). MIM is the revenue funding stream of Welsh Government’s Sustainable Communities for Learning Programme.

As part of the phased development of the site, new temporary accommodation will be placed on the site in early 2023 to enable the main new build construction works to commence. The main construction works will replace the current buildings at the school – including temporary classrooms – with a two-storey new build, which will target Net Zero Carbon in operation. The development, due to be delivered in early 2025 by Morgan Sindall Construction, will accommodate 480 pupils plus 60 nursery places.

The completed development will deliver a vibrant learning environment, while also providing community-use facilities. It will include new external facilities such as a car park, two-court Multi Use Games Area and generous green spaces – in contrast to the hard landscape of the current site.

A consultation which ran between October and November 2021 provided residents with an opportunity to find out more and have their say.

The project received full planning permission from the Council’s Planning and Development Committee in March 2022.
