Welsh Church Act Fund

The Welsh Church Act Fund was established from the proceeds and assets of the disestablishment of the Church of England within Wales. These assets were distributed evenly amongst the former county councils in Wales, and then divided between the Welsh Unitary Authorities when they were formed in 1996. The Welsh Church Act Fund is an independent charitable trust.

The Welsh Church Act Fund is available to Churches, Chapels, Places of Public Worship, constituted community groups and charities operating in the County Borough areas of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Merthyr and Bridgend. Organisations must provide activities that have long term direct benefit to residents and communities within these areas and must be open to members of the public at large.

Organisations that are either licensed to sell alcohol; have a club premises certificate; operate from a residential address or are a statutory body (including town and community councils are unable to apply.

It provides support for capital expenditure such as:

  • Refurbishment of a community buildings or places of worship;
  • Purchase of capital equipment;
  • Other purposes beneficial to the wider community.

Your Contribution

Standard - Small

100% towards the total eligible project cost up to a maximum grant of £3,000

0%

Standard - Medium

Up to 90% towards the total eligible project cost up to a maximum grant of £15,000

A minimum of 10%

Significant - Large

Up to 80% towards the total eligible project cost up to a maximum grant of £50,000

A minimum of 20%

A Significant Project must enable organisations to provide new or expanded services or activities for the community. Projects must provide added value and not be solely for the continuation of existing activity.

The Fund operates on a rolling programme basis. There are no set bidding rounds and fully developed applications can be submitted at any time. There is no guarantee that all applications will be successful.
